Sorry!

I'm sorry that it's been a few days since changing the record. I have been very busy and couldn't find the time to fit it in. Anyway back on TRACK now! Hope you like it, it's one of my favourite dances.

Thursday 29 November 2007

Todays Record

Apart from the records mid way down the page I shall be changing the one at the top of the left hand side every day. Enjoy!

Wednesday 21 November 2007

Pilsley

It was an enjoyable night at Pilsley. The place was packed which led to a good atmosphere. All DJ.S played good spots and kept the dance floor flowing. Personally I would like more modern thrown in to make a perfect night.

Hope you all enjoy the record changes this week.

Monday 12 November 2007

Kiveton Park

It was the first night at Kiveton Park following the move from Ponds Forge. There was a birthday party a few miles away and Blackpool weekender so the numbers were down. It was still enjoyable as the music was good with many records which are not played too often and some that I hadn't heard before. I didn't have dance but looking forward to the next night Decemer 7th.

Monday 5 November 2007

Barrow Hill!

Yet another great night at Barrow Hill with a good turn out. The music was good and the dance floor busy. Thanks to Neil for standing in for Keith and also to Guest DJ Kev Smedley, both did an execellent spot. Looking forward to the next one December 1st with Guest DJ Tony Wiggan from Sheffield.

I have made some changes in the record section. Thought I would add a couple of instumental's for a change. Hope you enjoy them.

Sunday 21 October 2007

Pilsley

Had an enjoyable night at Pilsley as usual. There were plenty in making a good atomosphere. The music was good and Guest DJ Keith Manlove from Barrow Hill played a nice across the board spot for an hour, keeping the dance floor full. Thanks to the Cooper family for yet another soulful night. Looking forward to the next one.

Sunday 14 October 2007

Annesley

I really enjoyed Annesley last night. The music was good and I had a few dances. It was the first time I had seen Chris Dalton in action and wasn't at all disappointed, especially as he started with one of my favourite records Lend A Hand - Bobby Hutton. Good night all round as Pete played my number 1 Looking Up To You - Michael Wycoff. Off to Pilsley next weekend.

Friday 12 October 2007

Record List

I have cut the records down to six and made three changes. Has anyone listened to a favourite of theirs yet? I shall be keeping Michael Wycoff and Willie Hutch on the list indefinitely.

Short Quiz

Just thought I would end this week with a short quiz.

Which soul singer was killed in 1984, the day before his 45th birthday?
Which record company does Michael Wycoff record with?
Which year was Willie Hutch born?
Where was Bobby Hutton born?
Which soul singer died suddenly on April 2nd 2003?

Changes

Just to let you know that I have made a few record changes.

Monday 1 October 2007

Skegness

Another weekender over, I can't believe how fast it goes. It was really enjoyable with a good mix of records downstairs where I spent most of my time as expeceted. Friday was more of a social night catching up with up with everyone. I had a few dances Saturday and thought Sean Chapman did a brilliant spot playing alot of crossover which I used to hear at the Hollingwood. Sunday afternoon was a bit disappointing as everyone seemed to drift upstairs leaving only a few downstairs. We left around 4pm, looking forward to the next one now.

Thursday 27 September 2007

Skegness Weekender!

I'm really looking forward to this weekend as I'm off to the Skegness weekender tomorrow. Hopefully we should arrive in Skegness around 5pm just in time to settle in and get ready for the off around 8pm. I think that I shall be spending alot of time downstairs as most of my favourite DJ's shall be appearing there, playing crossover and modern. Especially looking forward to Soul Sam, Mark Hopes, Rob Kay and Steve Austin. Don't think I shall be going for my dance record of 123 this time but I'll see how it goes.

Sunday 23 September 2007

The Victory Club

It was our first visit to the Victory Club in Sheffield last night. I didn't really know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. It was mainly oldies with a few R&B. The place wasn't very big but it had a decent dance floor. I will definitely go back at some stage.

Sunday 16 September 2007

End of an Era!

What a good weekend. Friday was the last night at Ponds Forge Northern Soul venue. I had been looking forward to it for weeks as my favourite DJ Soul Sam was to be the guest. I was not at all disappointed as he played a brilliant spot as usual. Infact I enjoyed the whole night. It had been one of my favourite venues, as it's clean, has a large dance floor and the music is mostly across the board soul. The soul night is now moving a few miles away to Kiveton Park. I hope to have many great nights there too. Last night I went to Pilsley which I enjoyed more as a social night.

Monday 10 September 2007

Record changes

Just thought I would let you know that I have changed most of the records. Hope that you enjoy them.

Saturday 8 September 2007

Next Weekend

It looks as though I shall be staying in this weekend. I'm not too disappointed as I am really looking forward to next weekend. Friday night will be a little sad as it's the last Ponds Forge which I have always enjoyed. It should go out with a bang as the countries number 1 DJ, Soul Sam (in my oponion) is making a guest appearance. Saturday is Pilsley where we shall be celebrating my friends birthday who will be the guest DJ there for October.

Sunday 2 September 2007

Mixed Feelings

It was another great night at Barrow Hill. The music was good and I had plenty of dances despite spending time on the door. The only disappointment was a fairly low attendance which was surprising after the last few months. I think I was wrong asuming that the holiday season had come to an end as many people seemed to take advantage of the last week before the school year commences. Thank you to Guest DJ, Mark Hopes who did a great spot as usual and to all that attended. Hopefully see you again next month, and back to full strength!

Friday 31 August 2007

Barrow Hill!

I can't believe another month has passed so quickly. Back to Barrow Hill tomorrow night. Hopefully it should be as good as last month, if not better. Everyone should be back from their holidays so we should have a good crowd in. I'm hoping to have a few dances as Mark Hopes usually plays alot of my favourites. Anyway see you there.

Monday 27 August 2007

Some Of My Favourite Records

I have added some of my favourite records for you to listen to. I hope that you like them. I shall change some of them periodically, (Enjoy). Thanks to atom at soul club.

Sunday 19 August 2007

Pilsley

Had a good night at Pilsley. I only had a four dances but my two favourite records were played, Looking Up To You - Michael Wycoff and Love Runs Out - Willie Hutch. It was fairly busy and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I'm not sure if I'm out next weekend but the following Saturday is Barrow Hill which I am really looking forward to as the Guest DJ is Mark Hopes, one of my favourites. Hopefully I should get a few dances in that night.

Sunday 5 August 2007

Crackers

I was thinking about the olden days and was wondering if anyone remembered going to Crackers on Oxford Street London in the mid 70's? I used to go on a Monday night, it was supposed to be Northern Soul but was mostly Jazz Funk. It was free entry and really enjoyable. Also in the 70's I spent alot of time at the Olde E in Matlock. Did any readers go there? Tuesday and Friday nights were my favourites as they were mainly Northern Soul. We used to get quite a few people from the Nottingham and Sheffield areas. Thanks to the Olde E for my love of Northern Soul. My favourite records in those days were Love You Baby - Eddie Parker, Laws Of Love - The Volcanoes and Wanting You - April Stevens. It was like a dream actually seeing Eddie Parker singing that record at Prestatyn a few years ago.

Great Night!

What a good night at Barrow Hill despite the Guest DJ Little Tony from Rotherham failing to attend. Stuart and Keith both played great spots to componsate. The attendance was good and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, thank you to all who came. Our next night will be September 1st and the Guest DJ is Mark Hopes who is one of my favourites so I can't wait for that. Hope to see you all next month.

Wednesday 1 August 2007

The 1st Saturday of the Month

It's here again, the first Saturday of the month at Barrow Hill. I haven't been out for a couple of weekends so I'm really looking forward to it. With Guest DJ Little Tony from Rotherham we should have a good mix. I'm hoping to hear a few favourites. My top ten hasn't really changed much in the past few years. Michael Wycoff - Looking Up To You is still number 1, you can listen to it on this blog. I am trying to convince Stuart and Keith to hold an alldayer at some stage soon. It would be great to have an oldies and modern room, then everyone will be happy. If anyone likes the idea of this please could you put a word in for me. Anyway see you all Saturday, on The Night!

Sunday 15 July 2007

Annesley

Had a great night at Annesley last night. It was nice coming across friends which I hadn't seen for while. Just one disappointment, I was looking forward to Rob Wigley's spot but he failed to turn up. On the whole it was still a good night out. Off to Pilsley next Saturday.

Monday 9 July 2007

Barrow Hill!

I really enjoyed Saturday night at Barrow Hill. The music was great by all the DJ'S and I had plenty of dances. We had a good turn out even though it was the Whitby weekender. Hopefully we shall keep the attendance up now which makes a good atmosphere. Looking forward to next month, August 4th. The guest DJ is Little Tony from Rotherham. Thank you to everyone who attended to make this such a brilliant night. See you all next month!

Thursday 5 July 2007

Saturday Night

Barrow Hill again Saturday night. Keith is back from his holidays and we're back to full strength. The guest DJ is Neil Page so we should be in for a good night. We're still one of the cheapest nights out at £3. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Tuesday 26 June 2007

Bridlington

It's the first Northern Soul weekender at Bridlington this weekend. Unfortunately I can't make it this year. It sounds like the lucky people who have booked are in for a great time. There are two rooms and plenty of DJ'S playing across the board. Hopefully the weather will have improved by then.

Sunday 3 June 2007

Barrow Hill!

It was yet another great night at Barrow Hill, I really enjoyed it. Even though I was on the door for three hours I still managed ten dances. Thank you to everyone who attended to make this another brilliant night and a special thanks to Guest DJ Andy Jackson for playing a wonderful across the board spot. Also thank you to Neil for the past two months.

Monday 28 May 2007

Saturday

Another month has almost past and it's Barrow Hill again. Keith's away on holiday and Neil is helping out again. The guest DJ is Andy Jackson from Newark. Hope to see you all there again!

Sunday 6 May 2007

Barrow Hill!

I had been looking forward to Barrow Hill all week. I wasn't disappointed as the night went really well. We had a good crowd in again and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The guest DJ Mark Godfrey let us down at the last minute but luckily Chris Cooper stepped in and played a great spot, (thanks Chris). Also thanks to everyone who attended last night as without you Barrow Hill Soul Club would not exist. See you all next month, June 2nd with guest DJ Andy Jackson from Newark.

Welcome To My World Of Soul!

I persume everyone taking a look at my blog are soul fans. I have been a devoted fan since the seventies. After more than thirty years I still feel the same excitement, listening and dancing to my favourite records and also hearing others for the first time. It's extremely hard to pick a top ten and I have to admit that mine has changed to a certain extent over the years, with a few exceptions. Anyway I'll try and form one.

Looking Up To You - Michael Wycoff
When Love Runs Out - Willie Hutch
You And Me - Sean Oliver
Lend A Hand -Bobby Hutton
The Laws Of Love - The Volcanos
Back Together - Hard Soul
Too Late - Mandrill
Aint That Good Enough - Garland Green
Make My Dreams A Reality - GQ
I'm So Glad - George Perkins

Help! That was really difficult. Can't wait to hear your top ten.

Annesley

Enjoyed a good night out at Annesley last night. The music was good and I had quite a few dances. All the DJ'S did a good spot but particualy enjoyed Andy Jackson's as he played a few nice modern sounds. Looking forward to Pilsley next Saturday, it's their 5th anniversary.

Sunday 8 April 2007

Last Night!

Another Great Weekend

We arrived back from Prestatyn yesterday afternoon. The weekend seemed to fly past, suppose it's always the case when enjoying yourself. We all had a great time. I spent most of my time in the modern room and the house of soul as that's where my favourite DJ Soul Sam was appearing. Unusual for me but I only had thirteen dances all weekend. All the acts were wonderful and I enjoyed every minute. We have already booked for next year! Just one bad thing, I lost a bracelet that meant alot to me, it's silver with engraved flowers in the corners of a few links. If anyone at the event came across it please could you let me know. Either email me at cathryn@righttrackholidays.com or phone 01246240903 - 07840973101 thank you.

Sunday 11 March 2007

Prestatyn

Getting excited now, Stuart and I will be off to Prestatyn on Friday. Unfortunately it's a short visit this year as we have to leave on Sunday due to work commitments. Not to worry we shall still enjoy ourselves. Hopefully we shall have a great time as usual with plenty going on. My favourite times will be the live acts and the crossover room on Saturday afternoon. Also looking forward to seeing our friend Andy who is coming from America for the event.

Thursday 15 February 2007

Annesley

It was the 9th anniversary at Annesley last Saturday. The night started off slowly for me with too many overplayed oldies, but certainly made up for it when Soul Sam appeared. I had been looking forward to hearing him for months and was not at all disappointed! The night ended with Pete Taylor who also did a good spot. Looking forward to next month as guest DJ Sean Chapman is another favourite of mine.
